Opportunity to share about our affirming congregations
United in Spirit will host an interfaith LGBT-affirming religious info and referrals booth at the Castro Street Fair Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018. Thanks to a generous donor, LGBT-affirming churches, synagogues, mosques, and religious groups in the Bay Area are invited to participate at no cost.
When and where?
The fair will be held Sunday, October 7, from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Booth location: TBA. You can drop off informational materials at our booth any time after 7:00 a.m. on Sunday morning. Volunteers who want to help staff the booth can come by at any time, for any length of time, during fair hours. You can find us by looking for our “God is Love” or “United in Spirit” banners.
What happens at our booth?
We spread the word about LGBT-affirming congregations and provide information and make referrals for many of the bay area LGBT-affirming churches, synagogues, mosques, and religious groups. Volunteers help answer questions and also hand out a brochure with contact information for national LGBT-affirming groups.
Why is the Castro Street Fair important?
The Castro Street Fair is one of the oldest LGBT community celebrations in the world, and is part of the enduring legacy of Harvey Milk, who founded the event in 1974. The Fair is not only a showcase and celebration of the Castro neighborhood and community; it also features a wide array of local artists, craftspeople and performers. With over 50,000 attendees, the Castro Street Fair is a great opportunity to reach new audiences and share about our LGBT-affirming congregations, ministries, and religious groups.
How to participate?
You can participate in several ways — whichever works for you:
- PROVIDE LITERATURE: You can provide informative and welcoming literature about your church and items such as wristbands, buttons, stickers, etc., to put on the table to share with visitors.
- STAFF BOOTH: You can send volunteers to staff the booth during all or part of the day, to talk to people and answer questions.
- OFFER FEEDBACK: You can provide insight about what else you would like at the booth.
- PROMOTE: You can share this page or let us know who else we should contact.

Please direct any questions about the pride parade contingent to Michael Leslie.
PLEASE NOTE: A number of groups say LGBT people are welcome but subject visitors to something less than affirming. For this reason, materials submitted may be reviewed so that appropriate information is provided.
